Excellence Is a Team Effort

Beaumont-Cherry Valley Rotary is beginning the 2026–27 year with something worth celebrating: recognition from Rotary District 5330 as a Club of Excellence. President Doug Emery shared the banner with members along with the badges and honors earned through a year of service, fellowship, leadership, and steady follow-through.

The banner belongs to the whole club. It reflects scholarships and student support, community projects, the Senior Thanksgiving meal, Casino Night, Cherry Jubilee, the new Peace Pole, strong partnerships, and the countless behind-the-scenes jobs that turn good intentions into real results.

Recognition is not the finish line. It is encouragement to carry the same energy into a new year: invite people into Rotary, create meaningful opportunities to serve, support one another, and keep listening for what Beaumont and Cherry Valley need next.

A strong Rotary year is built by people willing to organize, listen, invite, account, encourage, and serve. Doug Emery continues as club president, joined by officers, directors, committee leaders, and Assistant Governor Shane Arch.

The titles below describe particular responsibilities, but leadership in Rotary is never confined to a board table. Every member has a place in shaping projects, welcoming guests, mentoring students, strengthening the Foundation, and turning the Four-Way Test into action.

At our July 30 meeting, Laura James, Economic Development Manager for the City of Beaumont, joined the club for a conversation about the work behind a growing local economy. James also serves as president of the Pass Economic Development Alliance, bringing a regional perspective to the opportunities shared across the San Gorgonio Pass.

Economic development is sometimes reduced to a list of new storefronts. The real work is broader: helping businesses navigate permits and licensing, connecting employers with workforce and training resources, sharing economic and demographic information, identifying viable sites, and bringing public and private partners to the same table.

That work matters to Rotary because a healthy local economy supports stable employment, stronger nonprofit partners, a sustainable tax base, and more resources for the quality-of-life projects that make a community feel like home. It also creates natural points of collaboration among the city, schools, service organizations, and local employers.

As Beaumont continues to grow, the central question is not simply how much development occurs, but how thoughtfully that growth serves residents and strengthens the community for the long term. Laura's visit gave Rotarians another lens for understanding that shared work — and the part civic-minded businesses and volunteers can play in it.

Recognition at Rotary is never only about the certificate or pin. It is a way of naming the generosity, consistency, and care that keep a club moving forward.

Della Condon and Luren Dickinson were recognized as Paul Harris Fellows, an honor connected to support for The Rotary Foundation and its humanitarian work around the world. Their recognition reflects Rotary's tradition of turning individual generosity into collective impact.

Diana Mangan received a Certificate of Appreciation for her service, and Adriana Hubert was thanked following her presentation to the club. Congratulations to each honoree, and thank you for the distinctive way each contributes to a stronger club and community.

The club board approved $4,000 toward a planned bicycle rack at the Beaumont Library, connecting Rotary service with literacy, mobility, and one of the community's most important public spaces. Additional funding is still being developed for the balance of the project.

Rotarians are invited to the library's Books & Brews Sneak Peek on Friday, August 28, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. The Phase I Ribbon Cutting Ceremony follows Tuesday, September 1, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.
