26 Years of Cherry Jubilee

This year's Cherry Jubilee on May 15 was a truly memorable occasion, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of approximately 150 community members and students. Their incredible presence made for a vibrant atmosphere, all while contributing significantly to our fundraising and community service initiatives.

A profound debt of gratitude is owed to our phenomenal team of Rotarians and friends. Their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts were the bedrock of this event's triumph.

We wish to extend a very special thank you to Joanna and Bruce, whose exceptional leadership was instrumental. Joanna, in particular, demonstrated extraordinary commitment, dedicating countless hours to canvassing the community and securing a wonderful variety of baskets. Her meticulous coordination ensured every single item was perfectly organized and flawlessly delivered to the Chatigny Center on the day of the event. Bruce's oversight helped ensure the event ran seamlessly, maximizing our impact.

Our appreciation also goes to Matt, who expertly guided our kitchen team. Under his skilled direction, they orchestrated a truly delightful dining experience that catered to everyone's tastes and garnered widespread praise.

Run for the Wall

Members of our club gathered at the Singleton Overpass to honor the hundreds of motorcyclists traveling through Beaumont on their way to Washington, DC.

Many are veterans participating in a tribute to those who gave their lives in service to our country, as well as those still missing in action.

Samuel Bermudez Valdez

This month the spotlight is on Sammy Bermudez Valdez, whose life story is a testament to dedication, family values, and a commitment to service. Born in Mexico, Sammy's roots run deep, anchored by a large family that includes four brothers, five sisters, and a father who recently celebrated his 94th birthday. His personal family circle is equally rich, boasting three beautiful daughters and seven grandchildren.

Sammy's educational journey began at Banning High School, followed by specialized training at an HVAC trade school. He further honed his skills and broadened his horizons by earning a business management degree from Mount San Jacinto Community College.

His professional life showcases a remarkable trajectory of hard work and ambition. From his early days as a carrier for the Press-Enterprise, Sammy gained invaluable experience across diverse sectors, including jobs at Taco Bell, Del Taco, and Pizza Hut. He also worked at Bermudez Landscape and held a management position at the Deutsch Company before successfully venturing out to establish his own business, La Michoacana Ice Cream Parlor.

Sammy's dedication to our community is evident in his involvement with Rotary. He says he joined Rotary last year to extend a helping hand to the public, offering support in areas where assistance might otherwise be scarce. Beyond the altruistic mission, Sammy cherishes Rotary as a unique environment that fosters not only collective service but also a strong sense of family among its members. Sammy is our club's newest board member.

In his leisure time, Sammy has cultivated a range of interests. While he once found enjoyment in playing the saxophone and regular gym workouts, his focus today is on maintaining a healthy and fit lifestyle. Among his many life experiences, one journey stands out above all: a truly unforgettable trip with his father to the Museum of Mummies in Guanajuato, Mexico. He describes it as a sight that left an indelible impression, featuring a collection of over 108 mummified remains, including the world's smallest mummy — a fetus preserved from a pregnant woman tragically lost to a cholera epidemic. This poignant experience underscores Sammy's appreciation for history and the profound stories embedded within it.
